The model is a completed radio controlled model of a tug boat, which used a Tyne Models semi-kit, scale 1:32, making it 40" long with a beam of 11". The model comprises a GRP hull including bullwarks, the now famous one-piece GRP super-structure, GRP lifeboat and styrene sheet for the deck. To ensure the highest quality, metal fittings are cast in pewter. These include: sea towing winch, anchor winch, tow hook including travel bar, bollards, radar, navigation lights, gobs, port-holes, steps, searchlight, handrail stanchions and much more besides. Includes 12V electrics, 12V battery, 90mm propeller in Kort nozzle driven by car heater fan motor, radio hand controller & wooden stand. History of the real boat......... Albert. Built in 1972, at the Richard Dunston Yard in Hessle, Hull. The Alfred, Yard No 5881; Crosby, 5882, Albert, 5883 and the Victoria, 5884. All purchased by the Alexander Towing Company in 1972, to work in the Liverpool area, with all tugs undertaking many sea towing contracts. Powered by a Ruston 9 Cylinder Diesel, pumping out 2,190 horsepower through a massive Kort nozzle, giving an impressive bollard pull of 40 tons. Measuring 32.6m in length, 9m beam, draught of 4.9m and at 277 gross tonnage, to date they are all still in service around the world, with the Crosby now in Mahon harbour on the island of Menorca.
